Making Sense of Place: Project Two

Earlier this year the 4th Year Architecture Students of the Institute Technology Carlow’s Wexford Campus carried out a project called ‘Making Sense of Place’ in which they offered their views on ways the visitors to the Heritage Park could better ‘Make Sense of Place’ and thus, improve their experience of the Park. We are delighted to share with you their work and views.

The Heritage Park 4th Year Architectural Technology Project.

Making Sense of Place: Irish National Heritage Park

The original intention was to research the viability of installing a micro-hydro unit in the Irish National Heritage Park and as the project has evolved, a space has been created that can house a hydro unit but also created a pavilion that could be used for education and inspiration.

A pavilion like this would be a playful addition to the Park. The layout of the spaces will allow the participants to create their own itinerary.

The pavilion over the weir has allowed a reusable space for exhibitions and recreation.

The grate walkway along the slab allows the user to view the weir underneath the structure. It also allows in the sound of the water running underneath.
