Lough Neagh Bronze
Steve Finney

Irish Heritage Collection Cold Cast Bronzes, Designed, Sculpted & Hand made by Steve Finney

Lough Neagh Bronze is a small company that started as a partnership between Barry O Neill and Steve Finney. Barry has extensive experience in the giftware industry, primarily with Tyrone Crystal, where he rose from the shop floor to become a leading sales executive. Steve has worked in the giftware industry as a designer/sculptor for 21 years.

Both the partners had reached a crossroads in their respective careers due to downsizing  and outsourcing. They share a love of Irish culture, history and arts so decided to set up their own business in order to help keep that heritage alive.

The home of Lough Neagh Bronze is situated just outside of the village of Ardboe in County Tyrone, near to the famous Ardboe High Cross. Lough Neagh, the largest lake in Ireland is a couple of miles away and to the west, the Sperrin mountains survey the countryside in all their splendour.

The whole area is undeveloped due to the troubles, but hopefully with the continuation of the peace process, this will gradually change. The area contains places of outstanding beauty, the people are friendly and welcoming, have a strong sense of family and tradition. Lough Neagh Bronze hopes to be part of the areas renaissance.

Lough Neagh Bronze specialise in the manufacture of high quality cold cast bronze giftware, guaranteed hand made in Ireland. Products that reflect Irelands Irish and Celtic Culture and History. This range will be added to on an ongoing basis.

We are also able to offer a design service for small run production. This service is specifically designed to facilitate customers who need an item which is unique to them.

For example:- Personalised awards, for business , sports, pastimes, excellence etc. Or bespoke products designed to a particular specification for retailers, perhaps a wall plaque sculpted to show something within that retailers area i.e. a castle or local hero for instance.

We also intend to be an interactive company through the website. We would welcome any feedback, suggestions or questions regarding us or our products.

Bronze Casting

Bronze casting is an ancient art form, practised throughout the world for 5,000 years. Involving  melting copper & tin into an alloy, which is then poured into a mould & allowed to cool. The cast is then removed from the mould, then finished by skilled artisans. This technique is extremely expensive and limited to small production runs of usually not more than 10 casts. This results in a very expensive product .

Lough Neagh Bronze Sculptures are manufactured using a method called Cold Cast Bronze Casting. This is a much less expensive process, enabling the production of beautiful bronze  pieces which are available to everyone.

Lough Neagh Bronze firstly give a concept to the designer who produces a 2 dimensional design, when this design has been approved it is passed to the sculptor who then starts to work on a wax model.  This can take weeks to months depending on the size & complexity of the design.

The wax model is then passed on to the mouldmaker who makes a mould ensuring that any air vents are in place, he then makes a case to support the mould.

When the mould is ready it is passed on to the caster, who coats the mould with a coat of solid bronze, then he backfills the mould with a specially designed resin.

Once the cast is de-moulded it goes to a highly skilled machinist  who de-burrs and finishes the piece to take out any vents and mould lines.

The piece is passed on to the finisher who adds any patination and polishes the piece to bring out the beautiful bronze finish. Finally  the piece is checked over minutely for any faults.
